Digital Navigator Program
CACCWA Digital Navigator team will perform project work with an approach that focuses on learner-centered education and culturally relevant teaching. Many current members of the Cambodian diaspora had their formal education disrupted due to the war and genocide in the 1970s, or needed to prioritize financial stability over education even though they valued learning. The team strives to create safe and learner-centered educational programming that respects our community members’ lived experiences while teaching new or unfamiliar skills.
Our educational workshops will focus on practical skills for performing basic functions on smartphones and computers so that our seniors can more easily address personal matters of importance online, such as applying and maintaining Medicaid enrollment, obtaining health services, connecting with family and friends, and acquiring food and medicine. We will elevate our young community members and those looking for a career change by sharing tips on applying for federal financial aid through the FAFSA, finding and applying for higher educational institutions or jobs, and crafting professional resumes and cover letters. By doing this we not only build up practical skills, but also encourage confidence within the community.
Digital Navigator project will consist of three interconnected areas of focus:
- Educational outreach to support the expansion of digital literacy and online navigation skills, including career navigation.
- Expansion and provision of access to Internet services, and assistance with digital and online needs.
- Distribution and accessibility of Internet-enabled digital devices.
